New perspectives
Using the LinguaLive platform, students from all over the world can come together and have conversations about any topic. After two teachers have connected their classes, students can log in and find a suitable partner. Now you can call them on any preferred service such as Skype or Discord and have a talk.
Getting to know your partner from across the world is probably the most interesting part about all this. By traveling to a country far away, you usually don’t get an in depth look at what it’s like to live in said country. Most times you can only experience it as a tourist. However, by having these conversations, everyone gets a new perspective of the sort of lifestyle the other person has. Getting this kind of information via media is often misleading so we get a false picture of what it is like to live in Canada for example. But through this programme, any question you may have about the other person and their life, immediately gets you an answer.
My partner lives in China and is currently studying in Canada. But given the current situation, he must stay at home. Needless to say, he gave me an answer for every question that I had. I can’t express how much I have learned about their culture, and lives in general, by just asking whatever came to my mind during the conversation. On any topic we might discuss, we can get two completely different perspectives and situations given that our homes are 8’000 km apart. Often times we had instances where our perspective on a certain topic were very similar or even the same. Learning about cultures and other people’s lives is very important to me and should in my opinion be done a lot more across the world. Understanding others can often help us understand ourselves a bit more.
